Invited Imagemaker Presentation "Denial. Delusion. Hope."
Saturday, November 03 - 3:30PM to 4:15PM
Aztlan Center
The theme "delusion", beyond its clinical definition, may be looked at as having both positive and negative connotations. In my own work with threatened landscapes and displaced populations, the related concepts of denial and hope play a significant role in both myself and my subjects. The very act of framing a landscape is by default a denial of that which is excluded from the frame. At once, the photograph is a delusion, both true and false. Delusion can create a sanctuary from critical thought but conversely it can be a catalyst for the imagination. Certainly we can't all be delusional; but maybe we all are just a little bit.
