In Conversation: Rural Gallery | Urban Artists is a conversation between gallerist Sarah Ayers, owner of Patch & Remington in Marcellus, MI, and artist/educator Mara Magyarosi-Laytner, founder of Silver Water Collective, about the benefits of engaging rural spaces in contemporary artistic practices. Convincing artists to take their artwork from the bustling inner city galleries to a small town in rural Michigan would typically be considered a hard sell. However, since 2021, Patch & Remington has called to artists across the country to engage with an entirely different audience – one that greatly needs arts access in their community. This conversation asks for consideration of the responsibility of artists to bring access of their work to rural areas and the different ways that education can take shape. Sarah and Mara will focus on the different roles of curator and artist within the space, with a highlight on Silver Water Collective's Sterling Presence Redux recent exhibition experience.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
