"Alternate Realities: Worldbuilding in New Media" examines the research and methodology found in Jamie Ho's (she/her) series, The Ornamental Flesh, and Penny Molesso's (they/them) series, the between. The artists' practices and ongoing investigations utilize lens-based approaches to address how technology and new media shape intersectional identities. Through worldbuilding, Ho and Molesso envision alternate realities that foster safety and critique stereotypical media depictions of the communities they belong to. The presentation will highlight the worldbuilding potential of new media such as GIFS and game engines.
