Mary Statzer is the Curator of Prints and Photographs at University of New Mexico Art Museum where she oversees a collection of more than 10,000 photographs dating from 1841 to the present. She holds an MFA in printmaking from Arizona State University and a PhD in the History and Theory of Art from University of Arizona, specializing in photo and museum history. She has written articles for Aperture magazine and taught the history of photography at the University of Arizona. In 2016, the University of California Press published the book Statzer edited, titled The Photographic Object 1970.
