In the eight years since its introduction, Instagram has become a place for millions to display their idealized selves, to sell products, to be influenced, to be distracted, to…. As artists, what are we to do with Instagram? Shepard's recent work was profoundly influenced by phone photography and Instagram. Surprisingly, the work—which features extensive retouching—was made with large format cameras and high quality printers, and significant modifications to the gallery space. In his presentation, Shepard will discuss the importance of Instagram as a platform, his process as a fine artist, and the relationship between the digital and physical.
