BILL JAY (1940-2009), British photo historian, photographer and editor of Creative Camera and Album was a beloved professor at ASU from the day he arrived, fresh from securing graduate degrees at UNM (MA '74, MFA '76).
Jay's life and his many contributions to our field is now the subject of a documentary film by fellow British photographer Grant Scott titled "DO NOT BEND: THE PHOTOGRAPHIC LIFE OF BILL JAY" which will have its US debut at this conference. The film has met wide acclaim at screenings in London, Wales and Scotland. Bill's family, industry colleagues, former students and friends are among them dozens of contributors to the film.
Scott, Senior Lecturer at the University of Gloucestershire will introduce his film and participate in a concluding panel discussion. Joining him will be Jay's colleague from UNM & ASU, James Hajicek and several of his students including Mary Virginia Swanson, Krista Elrick, and Karen Hymer.
