Marivi Ortiz is a professional photographer based in Chicago. She holds a Masters in Fine Arts from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Prevalent themes in her work include the desire for connection, identity construction, personal loss, and trauma survival. In 2016 she completed a residency with A Long Walk Home, Inc. (ALWH), a Chicago-based national non-profit that uses art to educate, inspire, and mobilize young people to end violence against girls and women. In 2019 she teamed up with Mujeres Latinas en Acción, Chicago, conducting therapeutic photography workshops to abuse survivors.
Her work has been shown at numerous museums and galleries, including Collective Experiences, Chiang Mai Photo Festival, Chiang Mai Thailand, Awakening Foundations literary magazine, Forgive, Forget, or Fuck off, 3rd edition, POKE Artists and Online Social Media at Foto Fest in Houston, 33 Contemporary Gallery, Arc Gallery, Chicago.Other exhibitions include Extended Family for the School of Art Collaboration with Local High Schools at Night Gallery in Tempe, Arizona; and Family Matters at Northlight Gallery on the campus of Arizona State University.www.mariviortiz.com
Marivi is an active member of the Society for Photographic Education and was previously Co-Chair of the SPE Multicultural-Caucus.
