Panel
Saturday, October 26 - 10:10AM to 11:40AM
Saint Kate Hotel: Simone Ball Room B
Our panel will use two case studies as a platform to discuss broader topics around the state of community-based and socially-engaged art and photography. Jennings and Jones will share their multi-disciplinary, collaborative project Dinner in the Desert Kitchen, an annual, student-organized art auction, dinner performance and fundraiser to raise awareness of food insecurity. Cosier and Brusky will discuss their collaboration through Art Build Workers (ABW), a group which helps unions, organizations and movements amplify their messages through visual art, media, and archiving. These artists and educators will consider the state of social practice art and photography in Ohio and Wisconsin, with an eye towards broader trends that affect and inform our own photographic community.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
