We are proud to recognize Steve Goff as the 2025 SPE South Central Honored Educator. For more than five decades, Steve has dedicated his career to teaching, mentoring, and inspiring photographers. As Program Head of Photography at Odessa College from 1984 until his retirement in 2022, he shaped generations of students while also building connections through workshops, exhibitions, and community leadership.
Steve's career includes fellowships from the Ohio Arts Council and the Mid-America Arts Alliance/National Endowment for the Arts, representation at Mois de la Photo in Paris, and an extensive exhibition record across Texas and beyond, including FotoFest Houston and the Marfa Open. In recognition of his impact, Odessa College named a gallery in his honor in 2018.
Beyond his accomplishments, Steve is known as a generous mentor, colleague, and friend. His leadership with the Texas Photographic Society and Odessa Arts has strengthened the photographic community for decades, while his empathy and humanity have earned deep trust—including being invited by the Lakota people to document their sacred sundances.
This honor celebrates Steve's lifetime of contributions to photographic education and his enduring legacy of kindness, creativity, and service.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
