Pete Brook is an independent writer, curator and educator focused. His work seeks to unpack issues such as procedure, visibility, distribution and abuses of imagery as it emerges from U.S. prisons. Pete has curated multiple exhibitions, including "Prison Obscura" (2014-2016) which brought together images of mass incarceration from outside the documentary tradition. Pete's work has been featured by ACLU, British Journal of Photography, The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times. In 2018, Pete was awarded the W. Eugene Smith Fund's Howard Chapnick Award and a Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting grant. Pete teaches at CSU Sacramento.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
