TRANS, Disclosure and Femme in Butch Clothing

D. Hill is an interdisciplinary artist whose work surveys identity through a cultural and gender lens. Hill works in photography, video and performance. He is currently attending California State University at Fullerton to obtain a M.F.A in photography. Implicating himself, viewers can experiences self-portraiture of representation from a distinctive and personal place. Either by constructing narratives or video performances, Hill's work promulgates a dialogue about social difference. His work purposefully sets up a political framework for conversations dealing with race, gender, class and sexuality. He looks at how socialization and statuses impact our intra/ inter personal experiences. Hill's art attempts to bridge gaps of misunderstanding or discomfort with identities by posing open-ended questions, inviting audiences into these discourses. The formal technique overtly works as an entry strategy for viewer's engagement and aesthetic. Hill's concept is less of an examination of materiality and more about expanding the meaning of cultural identities.
