Nearly twenty years ago, the social technology critic Neil Postman warned of the consequences of the information glut that was drowning our cultural dialogue. "There is no loom to weave it all into fabric," he wrote. "No transcendent narratives to provide us with moral guidance, social purpose, intellectual economy." That glut has become a tsunami in recent years, as rapidly changing technologies have forever changed the worlds of journalism and photography. Now, more than ever, there is a demand for visual literacy for the kind of storytelling that Postman said we so urgently need.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
