Yvette Jessica Marthell is a Cuban American interdisciplinary visual artist, photographer, and educator based in Long Beach, California. Working across photography, video, experimental printmaking, and alternative photographic processes, her practice examines memory, identity, intimacy, embodiment, vulnerability, and the relationship between personal experience and visual meaning. She holds an MFA in
Studio Art-Photography and Video from the San Francisco Art Institute and teaches photography, digital media, and visual arts at colleges and universities throughout Southern California. Her work has been presented through the Society for Photographic Education, the Los Angeles Center of Photography, the Every Woman Biennial, and other regional and national exhibitions. She currently serves as Chair of SPE West.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
