Nelson Chan was born in New Jersey to immigrant parents from Hong Kong and Taiwan and has lived between the US and Hong Kong. This transnational experience shapes much of his work. He holds a BFA in Photography from Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from Hartford Art School. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Museum of Chinese in America. Chan is co-founder of TIS Books and previously served as production manager at Aperture Foundation. He currently an Associate Professor at Rhode Island School of Design.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
