In the proposed workshop, participants will learn how to create emulsions utilizing the light sensitive properties of plants from which to coat paper for photographic printmaking. We will cover the process of creating emulsions, how to prep and coat paper for prints, and discuss how different plant properties affect exposure and print longevity. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on how incorporating plants and organic matter into the creative process can strengthen our relationship to the natural world.
This workshop is based on ongoing anthotype research utilizing plants within the Alice Austen House Museum's 15-acre park and Queer Ecologies Garden.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
