Scott Hinton
Friday, November 07 - 2:30PM to 3:00PM
In this mid-semester research presentation, Scott Hinton will highlight the ongoing work of students in ART 397: Advanced Field Studies, offering insight into the course's goals, structure, and evolving outcomes. The session will include an overview of the class, followed by brief reports from two to three students presenting their research progress and plans for the semester's culminating project. The course investigates the intersection between scholarly research within an art institution and the ways art and science curricula inform and enrich one another.
Building on a pilot version launched in Fall 2024 in conjunction with GEOG 314: Field Methods, the Fall 2025 iteration of ART 397 will expand its scope through a partnership with the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno. Students will conduct research within the Center for Art + Environment archives, developing creative projects inspired by artists whose practices engage environmental and geographic inquiry.
The course will continue to merge art, geography, and field-based research, utilizing resources such as the Wittell Forest Research Station and other University of Nevada, Reno field sites. This presentation will offer a visually rich overview of the class's interdisciplinary approach, showcasing student-led research, fieldwork, and creative outcomes.
