Drawing on classroom experience as a high school educator, the presenter will examine the principles and practical applications of equitable grading—an approach designed to more accurately reflect student learning and reduce bias in assessment. While equitable grading seeks to create fairer and more inclusive classrooms, its implementation has also generated significant discussion and debate both regionally and nationwide.
This presentation will address the controversies and concerns surrounding equitable grading, including questions of academic rigor, grade inflation, and the impact on student motivation and accountability. By sharing firsthand insights and classroom examples, the session aims to offer a balanced perspective, highlighting both the benefits and challenges of adopting grading practices that strive to promote equity and accuracy in education.
