As an undergraduate student, the world of art, photography, and academia was mysterious, intimidating, and exciting. Not quite a deer in the headlights, and not quite having rose colored glasses - somewhere in between. As a graduate student, a bit of the intrigue faded, but the intimidation remained. As a new adjunct fresh out of school, there simply is no time to stand and stare into the headlights, and the rose colored glasses get tossed out the window - you just have to hang on and try to survive. And now - young professors in our first tenure track positions - we still have so many questions. With this Professional Development Talk and Workshop, we hope to provide accessible resources, open and vulnerable discussion, expectations vs. realities within academia, and how to make a plan to accomplish your goals. By telling our own stories, our hope is to demystify parts of the art, photographic, and academic worlds to help the next generation
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
