Looking Beyond the Digital Archive through New Media Translations

Artists Katina Bitsicas and Desireé Moore expand the use of digital and physical archives by generating new media outputs that explore notions of memory and loss. This presentation explores the intersections of these artists and how they transform the use of the archive through digital processing techniques, such as projection mapping, documentary, and Artificial Intelligence. Bitsicas' works combine archival family materials from four generations with digital media created in the present that are presented as projection mapped installations. Moore works with digital and internet archives to investigate grief in the digital era using alt-process photography, video art, and documentary film.
