This talk explores the current moment as part of an ongoing cycle of upheavals within photography. The medium's "death," proclaimed with apocalyptic language, has been heralded many times since its inception. While photography's role in documenting the world is currently in transition (i.e. 3D rendered images, AI-imaging gaining traction, etc.), this lecture looks to past crisis points and places current identity shifts within the medium in a historical context. Photography has proven pliable enough that it has been in a near-constant state of evolution since its beginnings and has been reborn as many times as it has "died."
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
