Virtual Worker Diaries explores the role of representation in the realm of networked labor platforms that promote identity abstraction and enforce anonymity. This investigation illuminates the power dynamics inherent to virtual labor platforms and underscores the implications of invisibility for those who work within them. The project seeks to do the improbable, to reify the original authors whose stories Kelley commissioned but who are now inaccessible. Through collaboration, the artist and virtual workers collectively imagine who the real, but unreachable, authors are, raising questions about equity, agency, and the reconfiguration of social bonds in an era of technological dependency.
