As a Muslim woman of color, specific misguided stereotypes have been assumed about me. The work I make is interested in challenging and undoing the colonial gaze and orientalist depictions of Muslim immigrants, questioning the history of photography and the role images play in creating inclusive societies. The presentation will encompass my work that has spanned over a decade. Through video, audio, text, and images, I aim to initiate a discourse. Instead of sticking with questions that are legible, I am concerned about asking hard questions. My work elucidates a highly personal, ambitious and challenging endeavor at humanizing societies.
