Equity in the classroom is both about what you teach and how you teach. During this workshop, Alanna Styer and Zora J Murff will discuss the fundamentals behind creating and using open access resources to radically serve all students by resisting economic, racial, gendered, and ability inequalities commonly embedded in curriculum. In the workshop, we will review a case study of Examining Photography's History: A Community Syllabus, an open source syllabus authored by Styer with support from Photographer's Greenbook. After this presentation, participants will brainstorm potential resources that challenge and dismantle colonial, patriarchal, capitalist, and white-centric lessons and classroom structures.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
