Women's Music Festivals: No Men Allowed

From 2007 to the present, I have made photographic portraits at music festivals designated for women only. With music as a pretext, these spaces have provided a safe place for diverse communities of straight, gay and transgender women, totally exclusive of men. In this project, I document my subjects surrounded by the collections of things they have brought with them to create their personal spaces within a shared environment. In my presentation I will show images from my project and discuss the process involved in photographing using a large format camera, studio strobes, while off the grid without electricity.
