Aerial photography and video made using drones (UAVs) are an area of opportunity for photographers - both for creative research and commercially. Drones are being used in landscape, portraiture, advertising, and real estate photography, and to document industrial and construction sites. Teaching drone photography presents challenges. Topics covered in this presentation will include rules and regulations governing UAVs, safety protocols, basic flight training, understanding drone equipment, licensure, project development, and strategies for integrating aerial-based assignments into photography curriculum. The presenters will share experiences from over five years teaching students to use drones, including potential pitfalls, best practices, and sample assignments.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
