Peter Cochrane, current adjunct instructor in Photography + Film at VCU, will present on the dissemination of imagery as it relates to autobiographical and queer trauma, recovery, and connectivity. Through the explanation of three projects--Osiris, From Blood to Lust, and The Wild Beasts--he will discuss the historical, photographic references that fortified and grounded the production of each within a larger narrative. His aim is to explore how the creation of visual art under systems of oppression can foster communal resilience and connection to others through chains of empathy.
Hannah Altman, a second year MFA candidate in Photography ant VCU, shares work from her practice which considers relationships between body, interiority, feminine performance, lineage, and the structures that perpetuate them using photographic based media. These two artists will present recent works and discuss the process of developing long term photographic projects.
