Nicole R. Fleetwood is a professor in the Department of American Studies at Rutgers University, New Brunswick. She is the author of Troubling Vision: Performance, Visuality and Blackness (2011) and On Racial Icons: Blackness and the Public Imagination (2015). Her current book is a study of the visual culture of mass incarceration. She is the recipient of awards and fellowships from NYPL's Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers, American Council of Learned Societies, Whiting Foundation, Schomburg Center for Scholars-in-Residence, and New Jersey Council for the Humanities.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
