Orlando IV
Light is the only thing the camera sees and it has the power to communicate beyond words. Lighting can seem overwhelming: too many options, too many tools, too many techniques. But its underpinnings are simple. The key is to introduce students to light so they're not intimidated, but turned on. Excited by the possibilities. Ready to experiment and play. Not put off by technical jargon, but seduced by seeing. So they don't just see how things look, but can begin to imagine how they could look. The key is to make it accessible, achievable, and fun. Whether it's continuous light or strobe, light is light. There are good reasons to use either, or both. The film (or sensor) doesn't care. Lighting is such an incredibly powerful, evocative tool for self-expression. Embrace it.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
