The continuing democratization of photography brings new challenges/ opportunities to image-makers and educators. Students enter the classroom with a loose understanding of the social application of photographs. As photo educators we can use this social construct and flip their awareness of the photographic image; challenging its purpose and function.
This panel is a round table discussion of artists/educators, who embrace the smartphones as a tool for image making and have integrated it within their curricula. The smartphone has opened new opportunities for challenging students to rethink the theoretical and applied significance of the photograph.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
