Historically, the camera has been used as a tool to capture and inform others about the world and communities in which we live. However, the camera can also serve to enlighten the photographer and provide experience to connect with individuals in our own backyard. In the community-based learning course, Exploring Society Through Photography, individual connection is made with community members, photography projects, class discussion, and personal reflection. The course allows students an opportunity to examine their values, discovering how their gifts can contribute to the common good of the world. Renee will share student projects and lessons derived from teaching this course.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
