What can art contribute to the conversation about environmental issues? Stimulated by work on this topic seen in portfolio reviews, I organized the 2010 exhibition, book, and interactive website, Earth Now: American Photographers and the Environment at the New Mexico Museum of Art to examine this important question. This talk offers a case study of the efficacy of art as a vehicle for advocacy and illuminates the curatorial process by touching on how the project was initiated, how it evolved, how artists were selected, how the museum engaged with community, and the project's continuing impact.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
Please join the conversation.
