"Southern Illinois Cagefighting: How to Hug and Other Sublimations of Men"

Friday, March 23 - 1:00PM to 1:45PM
Seacliff CD

For the past two years, Antonio has been training with and photographing southern Illinois amateur cagefighters in order to understand the sport and to learn, firsthand, the emotions involved when one competes.

"How to Hug and Other Sublimations of Men" is a study of southern Illinois Cagefighters competing for honor and regaining feelings of powerfulness and self-worth. His painterly still photos and ephemeral stop-motion video of controlled violence calls attention to the admirable and deplorable sport of cagefighting as a modern ritual and site where two men, through violence, compassion and respect, experience feelings of sublimation.
