Joyce Neimanas lived in Los Angeles for ten years and previously taught at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago for thirty-five years. She recently moved to UNM to join the Art and Art History Department to teach in the photography area. She retired in 2010.
She received three National Endowment for the Arts Awards, two Illinois Arts Council Awards, and the Pollack/Krasner Grant. She has exhibited at The Museum of Modern Art in New York, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, SALA ARCS Gallery (part of the Primavera Fotografia Festival, Barcelona, Spain), and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography. Her work is collected by many public museums including The Art Institute of Chicago; San Francisco Art Institute; Museum of Contemporary Photography; Columbia College, Chicago; International Museum of Photography at the George Eastman House; and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
Recently, she and Moira Ellis (editor) began making videos for dance collaborations with a choreographer, and musician.
