I travelled one month this summer examining and responding to Paleolithic cave art with generous support from Spain's Fundación Torre-Pujales. The results profoundly expanded my creative constitution and work. Caves, like chalkboards, are natural destinations for educative and expressive experience. These palimpsests, like minds and photographs, natively couple time with memory and conjoin the whimsy of imagination to the sobriety of scholarship. Neither art nor science could exist without the presence of the other. By practicing both we are more wholly human(e). In pursuit of science, I "use as directed." In pursuit of art, I "muse as directed". Imagine that.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
