"Art & Science: Investigating Matter"
Catherine Wagner will give a slide lecture covering her studio and public art practice. Wagner's interest in the transmission and creation of knowledge has often led her to focus on the effects of science on contemporary society. Her development of the aesthetic and conceptual capacities of MRI machines and her exquisite, minimal photographs of the mundane physical trappings of the Human Genome Project point to her interest in scientific studies. Through recontectualization, Wagner seeks an understanding of the pervasive ethical, physical, social, and cultural effects of science.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
