"Visual Sovereignty: Contemporary Native American Photography and the Politics of Imagination"
Erica Lord was born in Alaska; she has not stopped moving
since. She is an interdisciplinary artist and a professor of visual
art and indigenous studies at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
In her work, Lord explores issues that exist within a contemporary
indigenous experience. Using a variety of media, she questions
definitions, representations, and concepts of Native identity
working to offer alternate and challenging positions.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
