The growing art markets in China and Korea, as well as the
ever-increasing attention that is being paid to Japan's long and
rich photographic tradition, make it clear that there are important
lessons to be learned from non-Western artistic traditions. These
lessons can help us better understand work from these countries,
but can also enrich our own artistic pursuits. This body of work
speaks to the lessons I've gleaned from my studies of these
traditions, specifically the calligraphic, landscape, and gardening
traditions of Japan.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
