Sacred Space

Chapter 6 of Matthew's gospel states that "when you pray, you should go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret." When meditating, it is suggested to seek alone time and a calm and quiet place. But what do these places look like? Where is that spot that you can go to, your inner room? These places vary from person to person but are unique, and personal and allow for vulnerability and realignment of the body, mind, and spirit. These sacred spaces cast no judgments but allow a fresh restart.
Growing up in the Catholic church and walking through the halls, aisles, and grounds has made these places become my special place. Being in this calm environment relaxes my mind to the daily hustle of life. Taking the camera into these places I am reminded of a statement by Henri Cartier-Bresson "it [photography] is putting one's head, one's eye, and one's heart on the same axis". While wandering around with a camera in hand the details that would often be overlooked has become the details of my inner room.
