The photographic body of work Im Ty, Not Tyler is comprised of both traditional portraits and photographic fragments. These fragments provide glimpses into the lives and environments of five family membersmy son Ty, my wife Tammy, Tammys mother, and my parentsand expand the function of the portrait. With this, I address aspects of my family including individual identity as well as ones place in a larger social group, adoption, the place of an adopted child in a family, and the assembly of many to form a more complete whole. Although I have not photographed myself, ultimately the entire project is an extended self-portrait.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
