about

Juliana Rico (she/they) is a queer, Latinx visual artist, educator, and academic whose work explores identity, representation, and decolonization. Raised without seeing authentic reflections of herself in media, Rico uses her intersectional perspective to challenge colonial narratives and create space for underrepresented communities.

Rico earned an MFA in Creative Photography from California State University Fullerton and a BFA in Photography from San Jose State University. She lives and works between the unceded Tongva lands of Los Angeles and the Ohlone lands of San José, CA. As a full-time photography professor at Pasadena City College, she is committed to empowering emerging artists through mentorship, equity, and community engagement.
