Continental Drift

This is a new body of images that utilizes emotion in facial expression, clothing, and movement, as metaphors for shifting dynamics in Western culture. Color is used to both focus the viewer’s attention on the psychological states of the subjects and to provide a counterpart to those emotions.

The images are part of my ongoing interest in the relationship between individuals and larger economic, cultural and political systems. Reference points for me have been writers such as C. Wright Mills, David Harvey and Keller Easterling, and artists such as Lewis Hine, Guy Debord and Hans Haacke.
