refractured is an ongoing project that explores the growth rings of emotional memories formed during my childhood between two cultures – the United States and Korea. Rooted in self-discovery and self-therapy, this series revisits and refractures past emotional scars, transforming them into visual language.
Through this work, I reflect the unpredictable and uncontrollable elements of feeling into imagery. I take pieces of bottled-up, faded, and fragmented emotions and mend them together – embracing the scars and imperfections I carry. This process is an act of fully accepting and acknowledging the raw and often hidden faces of emotion within me.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
