This humanities series is comprised one-hour programs at the Mississippi Museum of Art in downtown Jackson. This month's featured artwork is Bruce West, Reverend H.D. Dennis with Candelabra, Mississippi, 2000, 2000. chromogenic color print. The featured book is The True Gospel Preached Here, by Bruce West (Jackson: University Press of Mississippi, 2014).
Bruce West talks about his project photographing Reverend Dennis, an outsider artist from Vicksburg area who is the subject of West's new book, The True Gospel Preached Here. West reads Reverend Dennis' sermons or other appropriate texts and literature. Gospel music is introduced and performed by musicians to accompany the lecture. Funding is provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities through the Mississippi Humanities Council. Cost: Free to the public.
