Bending the Frame

Presentation by Fred Ritchin

Thursday, October 16 - 4:00PM to 5:00PM
Conrad A. Elvehjem Building, Room 160

Presented by the The Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies and the Center for Photography in Madison.

We know that conflicts play out on the battlefield, in zones of environmental destruction, and in the manipulation of images. Photographic imagery documents war, but also turns it into spectacle. Can some of the billions of photos and videos that are now being produced also be used in pursuit of peace, to heal, and to avoid or minimize further conflicts and disasters? How are innovative practitioners using imagery today in response to climate change, racism, poverty, and other maladies? How does the digital help to open up new ways to tell stories, and new strategies to intervene in society? How can both citizens and media professionals contribute to these urgent endeavors?

The Conrad A. Elvehjem Building is located at 800 University Ave.
Madison, WI, 53706.
