Roundtable Discussion led by Rebecca Drolen and Meg Griffiths
Friday, October 11 - 1:30PM to 2:15PM
Louise Hopkins Underwood Center (511 Avenue J)
Mothering on the Tenure Track is a roundtable discussion organized to offer a space and time for SPE members to share a contemporary view on the complexities of embracing the intersecting roles of Professor, Artist, and Mother. Narratives passed down within the ranks of Academia often impose pressure or fear toward becoming a mother before the career-marker of earning tenure. With the average age of achieving tenure at 40, it puts the system directly at odds with the most common timelines of female fertility and family planning.
This panel will share personal narratives, independent research, critical resources, and crowd-sourced questions on navigating motherhood and art-making during the tenure track.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
