We are honored to recognize Marilyn Waligore as our 2026 SPESC Honored Educator.
Marilyn Waligore works in photography and digital media and lives in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. She is Professor Emeritus of Visual and Performing Arts / Photography at the University of Texas at Dallas, where she served on the faculty for 37 years.
She has exhibited widely, and her work is in collections at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Pennsylvania, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas, and is represented by Ro2 Gallery, Dallas, Texas.
Her Fantastic Sea Creatures series transforms aluminum detritus into fantastic underwater sea creatures. These photographs document objects that are assembled to create sculptural forms. Collected during walks in her neighborhood, this litter can be described as the "trash of trash." Aluminum packaging becomes symbolic of our use of natural resources; fanciful options encourage the recycling of post-consumer waste.
