Paul Paletti is a Louisville, KY native. He attended Middlebury College for 3 years before transferring to the University of New Mexico where he studied with Beaumont Newhall, Van Deren Coke, and Ray Metzker and received a BFA in photography. Paletti earned a MA in photography at Central Washington University in 1975 and his JD at the University of Louisville in 1987. He has been a partner in the law firm of Sturm, Paletti, and Wilson since 1994.
Paletti has served on the Board of Directors for Louisville Visual Arts Association, Louisville Fund for the Visual Art, Kentucky Cancer Research Foundation, and LOOK at Louisville Visual Arts.
Even with more than 1500 pieces in his personal collection, Paul Paletti just keeps collecting. Whether it's auction wins, finds from his yearly trip to Paris Photo or purchases made during our own Louisville Photo Biennial, there is always something new to see. Fortunately for photography fans his collection is personal but not private and the gallery's newest show will highlight some historic, and fun, new additions.
This is an eclectic mix of the current and the aged, the beautiful and the strange. From traditional black and white nudes to historic documentary works of 1960's Harlem and classic celebrity portraits, the new works are as varied as they are interesting. Sharing the walls are works by: Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Jack Welpott, Bruce Davidson, Shelby Lee Adams, Karl Blossfeldt, Yousef Karsh, Flor Garduno, Lynn Geesaman, and printmaker/painter Bruce Muirhead (Paul's first art professor, who he credits with subverting his life path.) We're also happy to feature two beautiful mordancage works by Kentucky artist and Georgetown College professor, Darrell Kincer.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
