I frequently seek areas of the United States that are not seen as beautiful, interesting to see, experience or photograph- these are not tourist designations. I find great pleasure in seeking wonders of the rural landscape throughout the US. I will discuss the discovery of wonderful, subtle and sometimes entertaining evidence of people's interaction in the landscape. My work deals with the ideas of place, culture, society, environment, and how these concepts influence us as individuals. I wander lonely and overlooked routes seeking a look at history and presence in the landscape. I will speak about two long term projects photographing US Highways inspired by travels off the beaten path. I photographed U.S. Highway 80, The Dixie Overland Highway for 15 years and it culminated into a long-term project. I am currently photographing U.S. Highway 83, The Road to Nowhere. I am seeking nowhere but find Utopia everywhere.
