Workshop: Body Positive with Rachel Rushing and Kristina Smith
Body, Positive: A workshop considering the expanded vocabulary of digitally produced mobile imaging as a framework for inclusive, intersectional public interactives and expanded practices addressing the zeitgeist of normalized, viral violence.
In a 2 hour workshop, we will discuss these issues and work with participants to create a volume of handmade artist zines that will utilize image making as a conduit for talking about these topics. After discussion, participants will create 8 images responding to the ideas and prompts presented. Participants will use their smartphone to print images using an Impossible Instant Lab onto Impossible instant film, bringing physicality and tangibility to the concepts. Images will be scanned, sequenced, and placed into a zine structure, where text and personalization may be added. Each participant will then take home their personal completed volume. Film scans will be compiled into a special edition SPESC book which will be available for purchase. Proceeds from sales will enable us to fund community engagement workshops in the future.
