Familiar Shapes is an in-production, feature-length documentary comparing two distinct stories: social bots and early modern witches. In interviews with over a dozen computer scientists, sociologists, and historians, this comparison reveals how media technologies (from the Gutenberg press to today's social networks) facilitate the spread of misinformation which shapes our implicit biases. Where these two stories converge illuminates a great deal about the behavior of people: how we define themselves against others, and how we're inclined to muddy the distinction between truth and belief.
